Another trip to Home Nightclub on Friday to see Sean Tyas and Israeli psy-trance duo, Coming Soon!!! We have seen two sides of Sean Tyas over the years, as he has adapted his style. But recently he’s returned to form and the uplifting trance through which he first made his name. And it turned out to be another excellent night, with great music, fantastic production and good friends, old and new.

Warming up the room when we arrived were Zac Slade and Pablo Anon, belting out a heavily psy-trance influenced set, starting the night at a blistering pace. Amongst the tunes I didn’t know were a few more familiar ones such as Simon Patterson feat. Sarah Howells – Dissolve and the tune they finished with, Motorcycle – As The Rush Comes (Morten Granau & Metronome Remix).

Sean Tyas took over at midnight and played two hours of wonderful uplifting trance to a busy and appreciative dance floor. He dropped tunes such as Sean Tyas – Way Down In Mexico, Giuseppe Ottaviani – No One Like You, Will Atkinson – Numb The Pain and Mark Sherry – The Pillars Of Creation. But my favourite moment was undoubtedly when he dropped his own classic from 2006 – Lift.

We had seen and enjoyed Coming Soon!!! back in September at Mind in Oxford Street, when just one of the duo had played. This time around both of them were here and together they delivered some great psy-trance, including tunes like D-Addiction – WTF (Coming Soon!!! Remix) and Vini Vici – The Tribe plus plenty that I didn’t recognise. My only quibble was that their style involves a lot of silences and changes of pace. The crowd did not seem to have a problem with this, but it doesn’t really appeal to me and I got slight tired of it.

Another word about how good the production is at Home these days. The sound is great and the screens behind the DJ booth provide interesting visuals to complement the music. Combined with a great laser show and occasional dry ice or confetti cannons, this creates a real spectacle that helps make the occasion special.

This will be our last visit to Voodoo for a while as we’re heading off to Europe for several weeks soon. I’m sure there will be some great nights while we’re away and I definitely look forward to our next visit, which won’t be before September. Big ups all round to everyone behind Voodoo!
