I’m not sure when the first CD in his series came out, but it’s quite something to get to number 14. It places him ahead of the likes of Anjunabeats (with 12 volumes) and even In Search Of Sunrise, which is seemingly up to 13.5!

Midnight Shift is a gay club and it’s the gay trance family in Sydney that provides the core of Ruby’s following. But like trance families around the world, it is completely welcoming of anyone who wants to join in the dancing. It was busy without being uncomfortably packed and the sound system was pretty good too. However, it was the laser show that made most impact as we danced to tunes played by Stephen Simpson, DJ Ruby and Kirby.

It was great hearing some old classics and a few favourite tunes that I’ve never heard played in a club before: Solarstone & Clare Stagg – Jewel, DJ Tiësto – Just Be, Super8 & Tab feat. Jan Burton – Mercy, Solarstone – Lovers, Jorn van Deynhoven –  Headliner; and even a trance remix of Elton John – Rocket Man!

All in all, it was another great night of trance without a big name international DJ in sight and we had a lot of fun. The big memory from the night however will be the amazing laser show – whichever way you looked the lasers seemed to follow your eyes around the room. I left thinking how great the previous 13 CD launches must have been and hoping that we’ll be able to attend the 15th!
